On Friday night it was just a suspicion: "Does Lia sound a little congested to you?"
On Saturday she was definitely congested, and had a gunky cough. We didn't make an appointment with the doctor because we wouldn't be able to get in till Monday anyway. We used saline drips in her nose and suctioned her with the bulb aspirator.
On Sunday she was about the same, maybe just a little worse. She was still her usual happy smiling self, except when we suctioned her nose. However, we were worried about the possibility of RSV. On Sunday night we decided we had better take her to the Emergency room just in case.
After lots of waiting and lots of Little crying inconsolably, and a few procedures that made me cry too (have you ever watched your infant's nose get suctioned?), we were told Lia indeed has RSV.
We are so sad that Lia is sick. Luckily, she doesn't seem to be affected by the RSV too badly, even though she is only 7 weeks old. Her oxygen levels are really great, she doesn't have a fever, and her congestion isn't preventing her from eating, so she is not dehydrated. Her cough is pretty bad sounding though.
We really have an amazing girl. She was so good while the nurses were messing with her, and she hardly cries and even smiles at us even though I know she can't be feeling good.
This morning I took her to visit her own pediatrician, and he said that today or tomorrow should be the worst of the illness. So hopefully she is feeling better soon! Poor Little.
